At 27 years old, with a soul carrying expired silver, and a face which was once jovial, now struck with grief and despair, the singer strums angelic notes from her acoustic guitar strings, gifted to her by her first grade music teacher, who adamantly iterated that she is a gift that has a gift. But her parents disagreed. And she seemed to lack support by her cynically seasoned contemporaries. Now, broken hearted, with broken pockets, under the rich blue high noon sky, the singer plays her favorite songs on the edge of the Golden Gate Bridge. The blue ocean hundreds of feet below her toes, purchased VIP tickets by the rocks, and can’t help but sway to the rhythm of her prose and the sweet sounds of her voice. After her last song is complete, her concert comes to a close. The shape of water suddenly crashes the pavements with cheer and a flock of doves flutter past her cheek and whistle to the east. While her vision gradually becomes impregnated by the floods of revelations, the singer slowly gazes down to the apparent applause. She awaits for gravity’s ultimate permission. “No. Not today,” whispered the waves. Not today. The singer nods upon the ocean’s commands, and wipes the water from her lashes. She embraces her acoustic companion and thanks the instrument for being her best friend after all these merciful years. Her companion has aged and wrinkled rapidly. Strings have been plucked out of its head, and its neck is dented, and its plush wooden figure is currently chippy. However, the sounds that her companion is able to make, still remain impressively youthful, like a spoken throat after drinking lemon tea, in the middle of recovery. The singer recognizes that her companion is on limited time, and she can no longer afford to take her best friend to the repair shop. And sometime soon, the instrument will reunite with her first grade music teacher. The singer retreads from the edge of the Bridge and her shoeless and sockless feet return to the sidewalk. The Earth knew she would come back. The singer hums away from the Pacific Coast. Her best friend quietly listens to her soul.

Very touching! Makes me long for Hope to reach the lost souls who are alone
Love this! It speaks to uncertainty, isolation, resilience and ultimately of hope. The imagery immediately transported me to a place of knowing...this is powerful prose!
